Energy for Thanksgiving (Holiday) Shopping

Before you grab all the Black Friday bargains your family is going to need these energy-boosting, mood-improving and overall tasty items to survive the lines and late night. Grab your wallet, bags and get ready for the night with Texas Roadhouse.

Holiday shopping can be exhausting — just ask anyone that has ever gotten up at 3:00 a.m. to snag that Black Friday bargain. Lose your concentration, and not only will the shopping trip be less productive, but you could even lose that deal you've been waiting for to a more alert shopper.

What you eat before your shopping trip can make a big difference in your energy level. Think of it as training for an athletic competition. For optimum energy, eat a few of the following foods before you go out for that shopping extravaganza:

Proteins: Meat, eggs, nuts and cheese digest slowly and add energy gradually to your system for an extended period of time. For optimal, long-lasting energy, our 6 oz. hand cut sirloin is not only going to hit the spot, but with a sweet potato on the side, your body won’t even realize it’s been going for 14+ hours.

Leafy Greens: Greens, like kale and spinach, are also good sources of long-lasting energy. Our chicken critter salad provides the protein, greens and cheese that will be a perfect combination to keep you full all night and running from sale to sale.

Superfruits: Concentrate on fruits like apples, stone fruits, berries and tomatoes. Whole, unprocessed fruits are better than canned or frozen fruit. Thankfully, our applesauce isn’t only legendary, it’s got the super power you need to wake up again before the sun.

Shrimp: Seafood, particularly shrimp, boosts your energy AND your mood — another benefit on crowded shopping days. Just make sure to avoid dousing them in garlic butter or a cream sauce. Because our steaks and cinnamon butter are favorites, it’s a lesser known fact we actually have a Dockside Favorites menu. We all know you don’t want to wake up in the wee hours, but you do it for your family. Do it with a smile and with our grilled shrimp, seasoned with garlic lemon butter and served over a bed of rice.

Water: Staying well-hydrated is essential to keeping up your energy level. Don't wait until you get thirsty, drink an adequate amount of water with your meal before you begin your early-morning shopping and carry water with you throughout. And, of course, it’s free at any Texas Roadhouse location. Just, please leave the plastic cup.

Keep in mind, although carbs and sugary sweets will get you an instant burst of energy, that type of energy is very short-lived and will actually leave you feeling tired in a few hours. Caffeine, too, can end up zapping your energy after that initial buzz wears off. Instead, any one of this menu items will keep you, and your family, going to get all the Black Friday sales. With these power foods in your stomach, you’ll be sure to snatch that Xbox for your son before anyone else looks at the prices.
