On the road with Mike DelVisco

Jul 08, 2015

One question I get a lot is, “What is it like to fish for a living?” Well, you can guess my answer is, “It’s pretty cool.”

I realize that we live in a place where there is freedom, tremendous opportunity and unique ways to make a living, sometimes by doing things we truly love. In my case, it’s fishing.

The best part about my job is having the ability to give a little back to those who keep us free and allow us to enjoy great opportunities.

Each year, I have the privilege of participating in one of the biggest fishing tournament events in support of our troops – WOW or Warriors on the Water, pairs boaters with active military personal and host a day out on the water for some fishing and friendly competition. This year’s event marked the 10 year anniversary and once again did not disappoint.

Nearly 160 teams competed on Jordan Lake with the winners receiving bragging rights and the WOW trophy. The evening before the event features an “Ice Breaker” get together and ceremony. After the tournament weigh-in all participants get treated to a legendary catered lunch from Texas Roadhouse Fayetteville, NC.

I can’t express how much it means to be part of this event each year and I know it’s just a small gesture for what our troops, both former and active do for us. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s event!
